Press, Publicity, and Reviews
There are a few ways to get free or affordable press and publicity, aside from being on podcasts. When you launch a new podcast, send out a press release with eReleases.
If you are an expert in your field and have a podcast about it, sign up for media/press alerts from HARO when someone is looking for a media piece in your area of expertise.
Apply for relevant speaking engagements, even if you have to do them for free. The exposure is worth it. If you don’t feel comfortable speaking, then at least attend relevant conferences.
As mentioned in an earlier chapter, do free and affordable promotions or ads in various podcast directories and podcast player apps.
As also mentioned in an earlier chapter, do podcast swaps, drops, and rolls.
Look into promoting your podcast in relevant trade magazines, papers, or blogs.
Get more reviews and leverage that by social sharing. One way to do this is to offer a contest to your listeners where they enter a drawing to win something. They enter by leaving a review and subscribing/following your show. For social proof, they take a screenshot of their review, and they share that on social media and tag you. You could even offer to do review swaps.
A new resource that makes this easy and gamifies the process is PodLottery.
Make sure your podcast is distributed to all the podcast players and apps that you are aware of. I have a list available at Podcast Profit Pro.
