How to Get Your Guest to Share Their Podcast Episode With Their Audience
One of the challenging things about having an interview show is just assuming your guests will promote their episode, and then the vast majority of the time, they don’t. This is for one or more of the following reasons:
1. They are “too big” or popular of a guest with a large audience already and they don’t feel the need to promote the shows they are a guest on.
2. They have already been on many shows and maybe talked about the same things, so they feel if they’ve promoted one show, they’ve promoted them all.
3. They don’t know how.
4. They are too busy.
There’s not much you can do about the first two. However, there is something you can do about the other two.
The first step is to see if you can get a mini-commitment from the guest either before the interview (by mentioning it in your confirmation email) or after the interview (by telling them your post-show process and telling them to expect an email from you with everything they need).
Then, once the episode goes live, be sure to:
Email letting them know their episode has gone live and that you’d appreciate it if they shared it with their audience. Turn it up a notch with a Thank You video (you can create this on Loom or Bonjoro [affiliate link])
Make this even easier for them by including assets within the email (or a link to the assets) and this would include any of: audiogram, captioned social media clip, email, or social media script copy they can copy/paste to their emails and social media, an embedded code for them to put on the media/press page of their website, etc.
Offer to do an Instagram live with them touching on the topics discussed in the episode with a link to the full video or audio. Tag them on this post.
When you share the episode across social media yourself, also be sure to tag them so it alerts them and they can just do a simple “re-share” or “retweet”
I have included email templates for this in Podcast Profit Pro.
