Affiliate Marketing

One of my favorite ways to monetize a podcast is through the use of affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is where you refer to a product or service you use and recommend. By using a special link provided to you by the company that offers the product or service, it then links back to you and you get paid a percentage or flat amount for any sales made through your unique link(s).
The product or service you are referring to would need to have an affiliate program for you to make a commission. Not that you shouldn’t refer to products or services that don’t have an affiliate program. I recommend products and services all the time that don’t have an affiliate program. You should refer to products and services you use, recommend, know, like, and trust whether you’ll make any money on the transaction.
You can look for relevant affiliate opportunities at an affiliate marketplace, but many products and services offer their in-house affiliate program that isn’t a part of an affiliate marketplace. So, you can just go to the product or service website and search for the terms “affiliate” or “referral.” It’s usually in the footer, but if you can’t find it, just search for it, and if you still can’t find it, you can do a Google search for the “(product or service name) + affiliate.” If you still find nothing, that likely shows they don’t have an affiliate program, but you can always contact them and ask, and if they don’t, you could express interest. Some companies implement an affiliate program just because someone said they wanted to promote that product or service. Worth a try.
Note: When promoting an affiliate offer always include a disclaimer stating that you make a commission on sales through your affiliate link, but then also assure your audience that you only recommend products or services you or someone you know has used and finds useful and relevant.
